Education

An expatriation project with the family understandably raises questions about children’s education. Mauritius prides itself in the quality of its education system and the standard of its academic institutions. Whether one decides to offer one’s child an education modelled after the British or the French education system, the options for schooling across the different educational cycles are numerous.

Travelling to Mauritius with a baby or a toddler, one will find various day care centers and preschool facilities that incorporate different types of early childhood program philosophies and help prepare one’s child for school.

The education system in Mauritius has been largely inspired by the British education system, with public schools using English as the principal medium of instruction. While public primary schools are free, there is also a network of private and international primary schools that follow international curriculums. International schools are a popular choice for the expatriate community as they offer similar standards of schooling around the globe, which also assists a child’s smooth integration and transition in a new environment and have school holidays aligned with home-country holidays.
